Raees is an upcoming bollywood movie of
crime genre directed by Rahul Dholakia and produced by Farhan Akhtar,
Ritesh Sidhwani and Gauri Khan under the banners of Excel Entertainment
and Red Chillies Entertainment. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan Farhan
Akhtar and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles.[2] Mahira Khan plays the
lead female role. This will mark the debut of the Pakistani actress in
Bollywood. Set in 1980s Gujarat, the film tells the story of a
bootlegger whose business is thwarted by a tough policeman. The teaser
of the film was released on July 16th.Principal photography on Raees began in April 2015. The film is scheduled for release on Eid 2016.
The film is based on the Prohibition in Gujarat but will largely be shot on a sprawling set in Mumbai and not Ahmedabad. There won't be any shooting in Gujarat as such given the bitter aftermath Rahul Dholakia's earlier movie Parzania which was based on 2002 communal riots received in the state. Moreover Shahrukh Khan's larger than life image too is cited for not shooting in the slums of Ahmedabad given how crowd emerges when he comes to the city
